‹› Do not loosen or the air spring damper will be damaged.

Boot

‹› Must not have any pressure points. Correct them if necessary. Refer to => [ Air Spring Damper Boot, Correcting Pressure Points ] See:

Procedures/Front Suspension.

‹› Installed position:

‹› Slide up onto the air spring damper as far as the end of the ribs.

‹› The bottom must engage in the retaining ring - item 8 -.

‹› Clean if dirty.

‹› To secure the bottom of the boot.

Air Spring Damper Clamp Tightening

Use the (VAG 1682) as shown in the illustration. When doing that, make sure the jaws on the (VAG 1682) are centered - arrow A - on the clamp.

Tighten the clamp by turning the spindle using a torque wrench (do not tilt the pliers).

‹› Tightening specification: 8 Nm

‹› Use a torque wrench with 4 to 20 Nm range (for example, (VAG 1410))

‹› Make sure the spindle threads - A - on the (VAG 1682) move freely. Grease them with MoS2 grease if necessary.

‹› If they do not move freely, for example, due to dirt in the threads, the required clamp tension will not be achieved at the tightening specification.
