Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair

Do not re-use any fasteners that are worn or deformed in normal use.

Some fasteners are designed to be used only once, and are unreliable and may fail if used a second time.

This includes, but is not limited to, nuts, bolts, washers, circlips and cotter pins.

Always follow the recommendations in this information, replace these fasteners with new parts where indicated, and any other time it is
deemed necessary by inspection.
1. Axle beam
-
Welding or straightening are not permitted
2. Stub axle
-
For vehicles with ABS
-
Straightening is not permitted
3. Brake backing plate
4. Bolt with washer
-
Tighten to; 30 Nm (22 ft lb)
5. Stub axle
-
For vehicles without ABS
-
Straightening is not permitted
6. Seal
-
Fill area between sealing lips with multi-purpose grease
-
Drive in fully using soft-faced hammer
7. Inner wheel bearing
-
Drive out outer race with copper mandrel
-
Do not wash out when re-used
-
Driving in, refer to Fig. 5, below.
8. ABS wheel speed sensor rotor
-
Vehicles with ABS only
-
Drive off evenly working through threaded holes in hub
-
Pressing on, refer to Fig. 6, below.
9. Wheel hub
-
Fill with multi-purpose grease before installing
10. Outer wheel bearing
-
Drive out outer race with copper mandrel
-
Do not wash out when re-used
-
Driving in, refer to Fig. 4, below.
11. Thrust washer
