Shift Linkage: Service and Repair
GEAR SELECTOR MECHANISM, COMPONENTS
Before disassembling the gear selector mechanism:

For work on the selector lever housing, the shift lock solenoid or the lock cable, first remove the center console refer to Body and Frame.

If the lock cable is to be replaced, the steering wheel and instrument cluster must also be removed, refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and
Warning Indicators.

To disassemble the gear selector mechanism, the heat shield must be removed and the complete mechanism removed from below.
WARNING:

Always move selector lever into "P" position and apply parking brake before carrying out work while the engine is running.

Do not re-use fasteners that are worn or deformed in normal use.

Some fasteners are designed to be used only once, and are unreliable and may fail if used a second time. This includes, butts not limited
to, nuts, bolts, washers, circlips and coffer pins. Always follow recommendations in this manual-replace these fasteners with new parts
where indicated and any other time it is deemed necessary by inspection.
1. Ignition/starter switch
2. Trim cover
3. Lock cable

Must not be kinked or bent

Center console, steering wheel and instrument cluster must be removed to remove or install

Removing and installing, refer to Ignition Lock Cable replacement, see Starting and Charging.

Adjusting, refer to Ignition Lock Cable adjustment, see Starting and Charging
4. Clip
-
Securing, refer to Ignition Lock Cable adjustment, see Starting and Charging.
5. Bolt
-
Tighten to: 9 Nm (80 inch lbs)
6. Transmission Range (TR) program switch

Not applicable for vehicles with Dynamic Shift Program (DSP)
7. Selector lever handle
8. Screw
-
Tighten to: 9 Nm (80 inch lbs)
9. Washer
10. Selector lever housing

Boot and detent spring are integral part of housing
-
Removing: first disconnect lock cable from selector housing
-
Install after adjusting shift lock solenoid
-
Install with "P" facing toward front of vehicle
