Cold Start Injector: Testing and Inspection

NOTE: The following tests are to be performed with the engine cold.

1.

Test the cold start system as follows:

a. Check to see that the battery is fully charged.
b. Remove the coil wire from the distributor cap and connect it to ground.
c. Remove the cold start injector from the manifold, leaving the fuel line and electrical plug connected.
d. Aim the cold start injector into a fuel safe container.
e. Crank the engine for about 10 seconds and watch the nozzle of the injector.  The fuel should spray in a well atomized cone.
f.

Leak test by wiping the end of the injector dry. If any fuel seeps from the injector, replace it.

2.

If the injector does not spray: 

a. Check to see that fuel is available at the injector.
b. Check voltage at the injector plug.  (Approx. battery voltage should be available).
c. If fuel and voltage are OK, replace the injector.
