Differential Pressure Regulator: Testing and Inspection

1.

Connect test harness (VW 1315A/1), Fig. 7, between the harness plug and the differential pressure regulator and hook up a multi-meter set for
0-200 mA.

2.

Engine should be warm (at least 50°C (120°F), and coolant temp sensor connected.

3.

Start engine and rev above 2000 rpm.

4.

Release throttle quickly and observe current reading while engine slows down.

5.

Current reading should briefly drop to a negative value (-30mA to -60mA) during engine deceleration.

6.

If current reading does not drop as specified, check for open idle switch circuit at terminals 2 (ground) and 13 (idle switch) of the control unit
plug.

7.

If wiring and switch are OK, replace control unit.
