Suspension Strut Replace

Vehicles Less Stabilizer Link Rod

1.

Remove wheel cover and remove nut securing axle shaft in hub.

2.

Raise and support front of vehicle and remove wheels.

3.

Remove bolts and clamp indicated by arrows, Fig. 3, and remove caliper leaving hydraulic line connected.

4.

Disconnect tie rod from steering knuckle and remove stabilizer bar clamps and bar.

5.

Push control arm down and remove axle shaft from hub.

6.

Remove nut from top of shock absorber while supporting strut from below. Remove strut from vehicle.

7.

Reverse procedure to install, and check front suspension alignment.

Vehicles With Stabilizer Link Rod

1.

Remove wheel cover and loosen lug nuts, then remove dust cover and the axle shaft nut.

2.

Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel.

3.

Remove bolts and clamps indicated by arrows, Fig. 3, and remove caliper, leaving brake hoses connected.

4.

Remove brake disc.

5.

Press off tie rod end.

6.

Remove lower link rod attaching nut, then pry down on control arm to remove ball joint from wheel bearing housing.

7.

Using suitable puller, press out driveshaft from hub and remove driveshaft.

8.

Remove upper strut attaching nut while holding piston rod.

9.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following: 

a. Torque shock absorber nut, while holding piston, to 43 ft.lbs. Splines on driveshaft and wheel hub must be free of oil, grease and old

locking compound.

b. Apply bead of suitable locking compound no more than 1/4 inch wide around splines and allow locking compound to harden for at least one

hour.

c. Replace gasket on inner constant velocity joint.
