Instrument Panel

Removing

-

Move the steering wheel as far down as possible using the whole steering column adjusting range.

-

Move the seat all the way back and adjust the backrest to a 45° angle.

CAUTION!
‹› Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components, refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] See: Restraint Systems/Service

Precautions.

‹› Follow the allocation of the airbag to the instrument panel.

-

Switch the ignition on.

-

Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. 

-

Remove the instrument cluster gap cover => [ Instrument Cluster Gap Cover ] See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Utility Storage
Compartment/Service and Repair/Storage Compartments and Covers.

-

Remove the driver side instrument panel cover => [ Driver Side Instrument Panel Cover ] See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Utility
Storage Compartment/Service and Repair/Storage Compartments and Covers.

-

Remove the side instrument panel vent => [ Side Instrument Panel Vent ].

-

Remove the MMI screen cover => [ MMI Screen ]. 

-

Remove the MMI screen => See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Entertainment Systems/Service and Repair/MMI System Overview

-

Remove the Instrument Cluster.

-

Disconnect the electrical connector on the access/start authorization switch.

-

Remove the center instrument panel vent => [ Center Instrument Panel Vent ].

-

Remove the radio/navigation system. Refer to => See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Entertainment Systems.

-

Remove the climatronic control module (J255).

-

Remove the front information display control head module (J523). 

-

Remove center console => [ Center Console ] See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Console/Service and Repair/Center Console. 

-

Remove glove compartment => [ Glove Compartment ] See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Utility Storage Compartment/Service and
Repair/Storage Compartments and Covers. 

-

Remove the instrument panel support. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Support ] See: Instrument Panel Central Tube.

CAUTION!
Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. disconnecting the electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static
electricity ". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

Disconnect the passenger airbag electrical connector => [ Front Passenger Airbag Igniters ] See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Service and
Repair.

-

Versions with a speaker: Remove the center mid-range speaker in the instrument panel. Refer to => See: Instrument Cluster / Carrier.

-

Remove the sunlight photo sensor (G107). 

-

Remove the upper A-pillar trim => [ Upper A-Pillar Trim ] See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement.
