Front Final Drive Gear Oil Level, Checking and Filling

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782)

‹› Protective glasses

Procedure

‹› Gear oil temperature at approximately 20 °C (room temperature). 

‹› Move vehicle onto a four post hoist or over a work pit so that it sits absolutely horizontal.

‹› General repair notes. Refer to => [ General Repair Information ] See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/Service and

‹› Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic

Transmission/Transaxle/Service Precautions/0B6A Transmission/Clean Working Conditions.

‹› The specified oil level must be maintained exactly; the transmission reacts very sensitively to over filling.

‹› Observe disposal regulations.

Place the used oil collection and extraction device (VAG 1782) under the transmission.

CAUTION!
Danger of eye injury.

‹› Wear protective goggles!

Remove the drain plug - arrow -.

‹› Specification: Oil level is correct when the front final drive is filled up to lower edge of oil filler hole.

Allow the excess gear oil to drain if necessary.

-

Add gear oil if necessary until it runs out of the gear oil filler hole.
