ATF Level, Checking and Correcting

ATF Level, Checking and Correcting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system ( VAS 5051B)

‹› Oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782)

‹› ATF filler tool (VAG 1924)

‹› Protective glasses

Test Conditions

‹› Transmission not in emergency operating mode.

‹› Move vehicle onto a four post hoist or over a work pit so that it sits absolutely horizontal.

‹› Selector lever in the "P" position.

‹› The parking brake button should be activated to close the electromechanical parking brake.

‹› Exhaust hose/hoses of an exhaust extraction system connected.

‹› Air conditioning and heater switched off.

‹› The vehicle diagnosis, testing, and information system (VAS 5051B) is connected.

‹› The Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) temperature must not be higher than 30 °C at the beginning of the test. The transmission must cool first

if the temperature is higher.

‹› ATF temperature appears in the display of the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B).

‹› The ATF level will vary according to the temperature of the ATF.

‹› The ATF may be overfilled if the level is checked when the temperature is too low.

‹› The ATF may be overfilled if the level is checked when the temperature is too high.

‹› Over and under filling lead to impaired functioning of transmission. 

Procedure

Select the following menu items on the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B) in the " Function/component selection" of
Guided Fault Finding.

‹› "Powertrain "

‹› " 0B6 - Transmission"

‹› "01 - OBD capable systems"

‹› "02 - Transmission Electronics"

‹› "02 - Transmission electronics, functions"

‹› "02 - Read measured value block"

Select the measured value "Transmission oil temperature" from the list on the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B).

-

Check the ATF temperature.
