Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 87 number 08-03 dated December 5, 2008 for reasons listed below.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
CONDITION
Ticking noise behind the dash panel or center console. The ticking noise is more noticeable with the radio volume set low and climate system fan set to
low speeds.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
Excessive free play present within the mechanical portion of the Delphi MES stepper motor(s) for the climate system.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
Optimized stepper motor(s) for the climate system in production.
SERVICE
Verify customers complaint of a ticking noise when climate system is making adjustments via the stepper motors.
Tip: Both Delphi Bosch or Delphi MES motor(s) can be installed in the same vehicle, but only Delphi MES stepper motors are affected. Do not replace
any Delphi Bosch motor(s).
Tip: The movement of stepper motor(s) can be initialized by small adjustments to the temperature settings in the AUTO mode. The change causes the
stepper motors to make adjustments. When the motors come near to their desired position, they will make adjustments in smaller increments. That would
be the best time to notice the ticking noise. The movement of the stepper motor(s) can also be monitored in the appropriate Measuring Value Block in
the 08 Front climate control module.
If the complaint can be verified, repair the vehicle as follows:
1. Verify that the stepper motor(s) is causing the ticking noise.
