Rear Side Airbag

Switching Off

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

-

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 B

CAUTION:  Note safety precautions for working on airbags and side airbags.

-

Switch off ignition.

-

Disconnect battery ground wire.

-

Remove left or right 2nd row seat cushion.
-

Seat beach (two-thirds bench)

-

Individual seat

CAUTION:  Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "electrostatically
discharge". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

NOTE:  Left and right side airbags can we switched off individually.

One connection each is found at left and right below 2nd row seat bench.

Press retainer tab - 2 - and remove connector - 1 - in - direction of arrow -.

Install left or right 2nd row seat cushion.

CAUTION:  Contrary to description under, battery MUST BE disconnected to remove airbag with ignition switched on. Ignition must be
on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy
unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment
areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the
battery is connected.

Switch on ignition.

Connect battery with ignition on, procedure.

-

Perform program in "Guided Functions" to deactivate rear side airbags. The respective adaptation program must be carried out.

Fill out registration card and send to Audi of America for registration. Attach page 3 of the registration card in the vehicle wallet.
