Affected Vehicles

Condition

^ Loud metallic (cracking) noises from the differential when fully accelerating. 

^ Rubbing in the drivetrain when maneuvering without fully turning the steering wheel.

Condition is more likely when more than 35,000 miles are on the odometer.

Technical Background

Abnormal wear of the chrome splines, which can lead to metallic noises or rubbing noises from the transfer box.

Production Solution

Transfer box improved in production.

Service

1. Try to reproduce the customer complaint so that it can be clearly assigned to this TSB.

2. Check the part number of the transfer box.

Old: 0AQ.341.010.E

New: 0AQ.341.010.J

3. If the old differential is installed and the mileage is greater than 35,000, replace the differential.

4. If the complaint matches fully but the new part number is installed or the old part number is installed and the mileage is less than 35,000, open a TAC
ticket and call the Audi Technical Assistance Center.
