Affected Vehicles

Condition

^ All vehicles with PR number 9VK "Bang & Olufsen Sound System" are affected.

^ Customer reports absence of sound from all media.

^ Workshop findings: Message from the Amplifier (Address 47) "control unit incorrect."

Technical Background

If the battery is weak, the engine is switched off, the volume/ bass is set on max and code +6dB is used, the voltage may briefly drop to under 9V. As a
result, the amplifier may be switched off, as very brief low voltages are not recognized by the software. The software recognizes an apparent complaint
and switches the amplifier off. After switching the system off three times, the message "control unit incorrect" appears and there is no sound.

Production Solution

New software in the Digital Sound Package Control Module amplifier (J525) addressed the condition.

Service 

Tip: It is not necessary to receive a Repair Authorization to perform this or any other R8 TSB.

1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

2. Update the amplifier using the SVM action code as listed in the table above if necessary. Tip: Vehicles with part number 420 035 223A cannot be
updated, so the amplifier will require replacement. Vehicles with part number 420 035 223D have the improved software.

With this update, the message "control unit incorrect" is deleted and the sound is fully available.

It is not necessary to replace the amplifier; therefore, amplifier replacement cannot be claimed under warranty.
