Oil Pan: Service and Repair
Oil Pan, Upper Section

Oil Pan, Upper Section

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

‹› Protective eyewear

‹› Hand drill with plastic brush attachment

‹› Sealant

Removing

‹› Engine and transmission separated. Refer to => [ Engine and Transmission, Separating ] See: Service and Repair/Removal and

Replacement/Engine and Transmission, Separating, engine secured on the engine/transmission holder, refer to => [ Engine, Securing to Engine
and Transmission Holder ] See: Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Engine, Securing to Engine and Transmission Holder.

Remove clutch pressure plate.

-

Remove the dual-mass flywheel. Refer to => [ Dual Mass Flywheel ] See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Flywheel/Service and Repair/Dual Mass
Flywheel.

Remove left and right timing chain covers. Refer to => [ Left and Right Timing Chain Covers ] See: Timing Components/Timing Cover/Service
and Repair/Left and Right Timing Chain Covers.

Remove intake manifold.

-

Remove oil filter housing. Refer to => [ Oil Filter Housing ] See: Oil Cooler/Service and Repair/Oil Filter Housing.

Remove lower timing chain cover. Refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] See: Timing Components/Timing Cover/Service and Repair/Lower
Timing Chain Cover.

‹› Before removing the ribbed belt, mark the turning direction on it with chalk or a felt tip pen. A reversed turning direction will damage the ribbed

belt.

To release ribbed belt tension, swing tensioner in direction of -  arrow -. Use a lever with 3/8" drive for this.

‹› Ensure lever axle is long enough so that it can be inserted completely in the tensioner.

‹› "Stahlwille 425QR" is a suitable lever.

Remove ribbed belt.
