Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Shaft Seal, Belt Pulley Side, Replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Oil Seal Extractor (T40019)

‹› Assembly Tool (T40048)

Procedure

-

Bring the lock carrier into service position. Radiator Support See: Body and Frame/Lock Carrier

-

Remove vibration damper. Refer to => [ Vibration Damper ] See: Cylinder Block Assembly/Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley/Service and
Repair/Vibration Damper.

Place inner part of the Oil Seal Extractor (T40019 ) flush with outer part and then secure it using a knurled-head screw.

Lubricate the seal remover threaded head, position it, and then install it into the shaft seal as far as possible using strong force.

Loosen the knurled screw and turn the inner portion against the crankshaft until the seal is pulled out.

Secure the seal remover in a vise at the flat spots. Remove the shaft seal using pliers.

Clean the running and sealing surfaces.

Place the Assembly Device (T40048/1) on the Pull Sleeve (T40048/2) and slide the shaft seal - 1 - onto the pull sleeve.
