Timing Chain: Service and Repair
Chain For Power Take-Off, Removing and Installing
Chain for power take-off, removing and installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil collecting and extracting device V.A.G 1782
Removing
-
Place oil collecting and extracting device V.A.G 1782 under engine and drain engine oil.
-
Remove engine
-
Disconnect engine and transmission
-
Leave engine on scissor lift platform VAS 6131 or secure engine to assembly stand

Remove covers for timing chains
-
Push glide track of chain tensioner in direction of - arrow - and pull off chain tensioner using a 3.3 mm diameter drill - item 1 -.
Note: If chain sprocket for power take-off is to be removed, mounting bolt must be loosened before removing chain.

Mark running direction of chain for power take-off in color.

Unscrew bolts - 2 to 5 - and remove chain tensioner.

Remove chain for power take-off.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

First install chain for power take-off.

Install chain tensioner on engine, starting at top.

Install covers for timing chains.

Install engine
-
Add engine oil and check oil level
Tightening torque
