Rear Subframe: Procedures

Subframe with Attachments,

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

‹› Torque wrench (V.A.G 1332)

‹› Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A) with universal transmission support (V.A.G 1359/2)

‹› Tensioning strap (T10038)

Removing

‹› For later reassembly work where the drive axle to wheel hub threaded connection must be loosened, note that it must not be done while the vehicle

is resting on its wheels. Loosen the connection between the drive axle and wheel hub => [ Drive Axle Bolt, Loosening and Tightening ] See:

Suspension/Drive Axle Bolt, Loosening and Tightening.

Determine dimension - a - from the center of the wheel to the lower edge of the wheel housing before starting work while the vehicle is resting on
its wheels.

Place vehicle on a hoist.

Remove wheels.

Remove coil spring => [ Coil Spring ] See: Steering and Suspension/Suspension/Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf )/Service and Repair.

Remove exhaust system rear muffler.

-

Remove driveshaft from rear final drive.

Secure driveshaft - 3 - to body - 2 - using a wire - 1 -.
