Camshaft: Service and Repair

Camshafts

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Multi-Point Socket (T10035)

‹› Tool Set (T10133)

‹› Counterhold Tool (T10172) with (10172/7)

‹› Securing Pins 1 set = qty. 2 (T40116)

‹› Hand drill with plastic brush attachment

‹› Protective eyewear

‹› Sealant

Removing

‹› Here, removal and installation at left cylinder head is depicted in the following description.

Remove affected camshaft timing chain from camshafts. Refer to => [ Camshaft Timing Chains, Removing from Camshafts ] See: Timing
Components/Timing Chain/Service and Repair/Camshaft Timing Chains, Removing From Camshafts.

Disconnect electrical connectors:

1. on Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 (N208)

2. on Fuel Pressure Sensor (G247) *

3. on the left high pressure pump

4. on Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 2 (G163)

Remove bolt - 5 - and move the wiring harness to the side.

Remove high pressure pump. 

‹› To prevent engine oil from running out, place a rag under the upper section of the oil pan.

Remove crankshaft holder Crankshaft Holder (3242) from upper section of oil pan.
