Fig.7 Camshaft Bearing Cap Identification
Camshaft Alignment With Cylinder Head Cover Removed
1. Align mark on camshaft sprocket with arrow on cylinder head, Fig.4, then TDC mark "O" with cast mark on bellhousing Fig.5.
2. Remove upper timing belt cover, intake manifold and cylinder head cover.
3. Loosen bolts on water pump and turn pump clockwise to loosen timing belt, then remove camshaft sprocket.
4. Proceed as follows for exhaust camshaft:
a. Remove bearing cap in front of drive chain and caps 2 and 4, Fig.7.
b. Loosen bearing caps 1, 3 and 5 alternately and diagonally.
5. Proceed as follows for intake camshaft:
a. Remove bearing cap in front of drive chain and caps 7 and 9, Fig.7.
b. Loosen bearing caps 6, 8 and 10 alternately and diagonally.
6. Remove both camshafts together with chain.
7. Remove distributor as outlined under Distributor, Replace.
8. Install both camshafts with chain so markings on chain sprockets align as shown in Fig.8.
9. Proceed as follows for intake camshaft:
