Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
Right Drive Flange Sealing Ring, Replacing

Special Tools

- The following special tools and testing equipment are necessary for this work:

-

VW 681 - Extractor lever

-

3382 - Pressure piece

Removing

Remove right-front wheel.

^

Remove heat shield for right drive axle.

^

Remove right drive axle.

^

Prevent drive flange from turning using mandrel and remove center bolt from drive flange (arrow).

^

Place oil drain pan underneath transmission to catch spilled fluid.

^

Pull out right drive flange.

^

Remove sealing ring for right drive flange using extractor lever VW 681.

 Installing 

Notes:

^

The open side of the sealing ring faces the transmission.

^

Lubricate the outer circumference and the sealing lips of the sealing ring with gear oil or coat with thin layer of Vaseline.
