Repairs and Inspections Required After a Collision: Service and Repair
Safety Components Following an Accident, Replacing
Safety Components Following An Accident, Replacing
Accident involving activation of airbag and/or belt tensioner
NOTE:
-
The airbag control module can be used for triggering the side airbags and/or belt-tensioners up to 3 times.
-
The DTC display "Control Module Malfunctioning" will appear after third triggering.
Airbag control module must be replaced:
-
If drivers/passenger side airbag has been triggered.
-
If housing is damaged
-
In the event of tunnel deformation within 200 mm radius of control module
-
After airbag has been triggered three times
Always replace the following:
-
All triggered airbag units
Also replace if passenger side airbag has been triggered:
-
Airbag flap and frame (never bend deformed frame back into shape); instrument panel if damaged.
-
Lateral acceleration sensor if floor pan around sensor has been deformed.
Also replace if drivers side airbag has been triggered:
-
Coil connector with slip ring
-
Lateral acceleration sensor if floor pan around sensor has been deformed.
Also replace if side airbag has been triggered:
-
Lateral acceleration sensor on side where airbag has been triggered.
-
Non-triggered lateral acceleration sensor if floor pan around sensor has been deformed.
Additionally:
-
All seat belts with triggered belt tensioners
-
Triggered belt tensioners can be identified using On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
A-If airbag control module has been triggered:
Front belt tensioner:
-
Read measured value block, display group 001: Triggered belt tensioners can be seen from display "too large".
B-If airbag control module has been replaced:
-
Check DTC memory : A triggered belt tensioner is identified by the DTC message "Belt tensioner igniter - Resistance value too large".
-
In addition, all damaged components must also be replaced if necessary (visual check).
Accident not involving activation of airbag
-
If the Airbag Warning Light K75 does not indicate a malfunction, it is not necessary to replace the airbag/belt-tensioner components.
After replacing the airbag units or the control module, affix stickers (only tear-off strips) to the registration card and return the registration card to the
warranty center for registration.
