Brake Caliper: Adjustments

Rear disc brakes, basic setting

Note:

When adjusting basic setting, parking brake cable should not be under tension with parking brake released.

Checking

using screwdriver. press parking brake cable lever alternately against stop (arrow)
if lever of opposite brake caliper is pulled away from stop. parking brake cable is under too much tension

Note:

Stop (arrow) is illustrated with brake caliper removed.

remove center heat shield by pulling exhaust system firmly downward
attach long 10 mm (0.4 in) socket to adjusting nut, then attach extension to socket wrench and ratchet
use 10 mm (0.4 in) open-end adjustable wrench for loosening and locking

remove lock nut 1 with small ratchet and flexible extension
loosen adjusting nut 2 with small ratchet and flexible extension until both levers lie against stop
