Turbocharger - Replacing swirl generator

E81, E87 / N47UL

Situation:

Unfavourable material contraction could cause the anti-rotation lock on the swirl generator
to lose its effectiveness. This could cause the swirl generator in the turbocharger to move in
its seating in the pure air pipe, and eventually fall out.

Affected vehicles:

E81, E87 / model 118d with engine N47/B20UL (lower power rating) 

Manufacturing period: March 2007 until August 2007

Action:

In case of a turbocharger needing to be replaced on vehicles from the affected
manufacturing period, the swirl generator should be also replaced once only in the pure air
pipe already fitted (BMW part number 13 71 7 805 173).

Procedure:

Remove the swirl generator from the already fitted pure air pipe (BMW part number
13 71 7 805 173).

Important:

Note the location of the anti-rotation lock on the new swirl generator!

Press the new swirl generator with wire ring reinforcement to the stop collar into the pure air
pipe already fitted (BMW part number 13 71 7 805 173).

Note:

The pure air pipe (BMW part number 13 71 7 805 173) must not be replaced.

Note on reimbursement:

Replacing the swirl generator is included in the scope of operations for replacing
the turbocharger.
