Noises from the dashboard area
E87
Situation:
When driving on uneven road surfaces, unwanted noises can occur that the customer
perceives as sporadic cracking from the left and right dashboard in the area of the A-pillar
and on the right, from the area of the glove box.
The cracking noises are caused by an unfavourable pairing of plastic and metal materials
and can correspond to two fault patterns.
Fault pattern 1:
The cracking noises originate from the
contact surface of the plastic
dashboard insert on the bracket of the
left and/or right support pipe.
Fault pattern 2:
The cracking noises originate from the
point at which the dashboard is
screwed to the right support pipe
bracket.
Affected vehicles:
E87
Production period: Start of series production until December 2005
Action:
The cracking noises can be eliminated by placing material under the areas affected.
Procedure:
In case of customer complaint, locate the cracking noises. After assigning to the area of the
dashboard, eliminate the cracking noises in accordance with the following repair
instructions:
•
Fault pattern 1: Cracking noise from left and right dashboard area / A-pillar (Enclosure
1).
•
Fault pattern 2: Cracking noise from right dashboard area / glove box (Enclosure 2).
