Repairing corrosion damage
All
Situation:
When repairing body parts affected by corrosion damage, there are currently no
instructions to replace attached parts in the repair instructions or in the paintwork
handbook.
For this reason, a Service Information bulletin will be drawn up shortly containing borderline
cases and a detailed description of the procedure.
Procedure:
Until this Service Information bulletin is published, please observe the following procedure
when dealing with corrosion damage:
1. Dismantle the body area affected as described in the repair instructions.
Important:
All attached parts must be retained and modified.
Exception: Glued panels that cannot be removed without being damaged.
2. Repair the body areas affected by corrosion, complying with both the repair instructions
and the BMW paintwork handbook.
3. Reassemble the vehicle, reusing all attached parts removed.
Note:
While repairing body parts affected by corrosion damage, only the following may
be reimbursed:
-
Corroded body parts
-
Paint
-
Conversion of attached parts
-
Cavity coating
Abrasion points on a painted surface are not a reason for replacing a part.
