In so doing, the initial installation costs, which are higher due to the one-off installation of
the new "oil filter case" on the M10 and M20 engines should be compared to the lower
follow-on costs with the paper filter elements. Depending on the model, the initial
acquisition costs will have been redeemed after just 2 or 3 oil changes.

Different caps (aluminium or plastic) can be installed on the oil filter case on the M20
engine, depending on the model in question. 
For reasons of heat protection, oil filters which point to the rear must only be fitted with the
aluminium cap! For further details, see the section headed "Parts".

Procedure:

1.

Vehicles with M10 and M20 engine: 
Installation of new aluminium oil filter case:

-

Remove and dispose of the current sheet metal cartridge

-

Wet the rectangular rubber seal with oil

-

Screw the filter case onto the existing central hollow union bolt; (tightening torque 20
Nm)

-

Insert the environmentally compatible paper filter element into the new aluminium filter
case

-

Fit the round rubber seal onto the plastic or aluminium cap and wet it with oil

-

Screw the plastic or aluminium cap onto the filter case; (tightening torque 20 Nm)
