About the E36 3 Series
The E36 was the third-generation 3 Series, made from 1990 to 2000 as a saloon, coupe, convertible, Touring and, for the first time, a Compact hatchback. It brought a multi-link rear suspension and was on Car and Driver's 10Best list every year it was sold. The Z3 roadster and coupe were built on it.
What these manuals cover
- Four-cylinder petrol: the 316i, 318i, 318is and 318ti (M40, M42, M43, M44), and the 316g natural-gas Compact.
- Six-cylinder petrol: the 320i, 323i, 325i and 328i (M50, M52).
- Diesel: the 318tds (M41) and the 325td and 325tds (M51).
- The M3 (S50, S52) and the Z3 roadster and coupe, including the M roadster and M coupe.
Tip: these are BMW factory manuals, listed by model, engine and body rather than by year. The code in brackets is the engine (M54, N52 and so on), and the last word is the body: SAL saloon, TOUR Touring (estate), COUPE, CONVER convertible, COMP Compact (hatchback), ROADST roadster, OFFRD for the X models.
