Remedy
Crackling and clicking noise
Defective alternator regulator
Race engine enough until
interference noise can be clearly
heard. Now switch on headlights and
rear window defogger. The regulator
is defective if the interference noise
stops or changes.
Howling or whistling noise,
depending on engine speed
Interference from alternator
Remove drive belts and run engine
briefly. If this produces interference,
replace or service install capacitor
on terminal (+) of alternator
