3 Series E36 318i (M44) SAL
Lift locking clamp of plug-in connection in upwards direction.
Disconnect connector.
Pull control unit out of clips (retaining screws on retaining clips do
not need to be unfastened).

Control unit for automatic transmission

Control unit for Digital Motor Electronics
Refer to Electrical Troubleshooting Manual for 3 Series E 36
for pin allocation and further instructions.
Installation:
Check control unit part number and coding when replacing.
Interrogate fault memory of DME-control unit, check faults in
memory then cancel fault memory.
Plug-in connection (1) must be inserted when catalytic converter is
removed.
The DME control unit then recognizes the output value of the idle
speed CO potentiometer.
Refer to Electrical Troubleshooting Manual for 3 Series E 36 for
pin allocation and further instructions.
