Troubleshooting airbag II

If airbag indicator light remains constantly lit after the engine has been started (i.e. for more than 4 seconds), there is a
fault in the system.

1.

Remove airbag unit,

refer to 32 34 020

2.

Fit adapter cable 62 1 240 to airbag unit with test cable 62 1 260.

3.

Re-install airbag unit, arranging test cable to lead outwards between airbag unit and steering wheel.

Caution!

Only perform measurements while airbag unit is installed.

A measurement may only be taken with the BMW Service Tester or DIS at room temperature.

If different equipment is used, there is a risk of activating the airbag.

4.

Measure resistance of airbag unit at free ends of test cables (squib).

Nominal value 1.7 ... 2.2 

Ω

5.

If measured value is outside specified value range, replace airbag unit.

If measured value is within specified value range, replace control unit.
