Removing and installing / replacing
headlining in convertible top (electric
motor/fully-automatic)

Version without handle recess on finisher strip:

Removing and installing drive motor for convertible top
lock,

refer to 54 34 200

Version with handle recess on finisher strip:

Removing and installing finisher on convertible top lock,

refer to 54 34 125

Unfasten screws (1) with special tool 54 3 160, unfasten and
remove left/right headliner reinforcement.

Clamping cable (B1):

Bend lead-seating unit downwards on tensioning cable (B1).

Remove tensioning cable (B1) at top end and from changeover
lugs (U1) to (U4) and spring (F1).

Knot tensioning cable (B1) to headlining to ensure it does not get
lost.

Caution!

Reversing lugs (U1) to (U4) must not be unfastened (risk of
damage to convertible top cover).

Caution!

If a new tensioning cable (B1) is used from the repair kit
(Sourcing Reference: BMW Parts Service), it must be cut to
size for installation in the fully-automatic EM convertible top.

Shorten total length by 12 mm and seal tensioning cable to
prevent fraying.

Note:

Total length of 671 mm (with 30 N pretensioned).
