Ticking noise from the tank-ventilation valve (TEV)
E36 / M52
Complaint:
In isolated cases, it is possible that an annoying ticking noise can be heard in the
passenger compartment.
Cause:
Body noise transmission from the attachment of the tank-ventilation valve (TEV) to the
spring strut dome (body) into the passenger compartment.
The TEV itself is in working order.
Affected
vehicles:
E36/M52 ECE
Manufacturing period: Start of series production (September 94) until May 97
E36/M52 US:
Manufacturing period: Start of series production (September 95) until June 96
Remedy:
Only in the event of a specific customer complaint:
E36/M52 ECE
Relocation of the TEV from the left-hand spring strut dome (body) to the engine intake unit.
E36/M52 US
Uncoupling of the TEV.
