Soft top lining loose

E36 Convertible

Complaints: 

The soft top lining is loose or comes away at the hoop mounting.

Cause: 

-

The plastic shells have insufficient retention power.

-

The screwed mounting points come away or the plastic shell breaks.

Affected
vehicles:

E36 Convertible

Remedy: 

In the event of this complaint arising, the plastic shells should be reattached to the soft top
hoop using the procedure described below.

The repair kit contains parts for all three hoops.

Procedure:

-

Partially open the soft top.

-

Remove the cover panel from the soft top catch.

-

Remove the folding former wire from the soft top.

-

Unfasten the lining from the corner hoop (1), the main hoop (2) and the intermediate
hoop (3) (please refer to figure 1).

Repair to corner hoop (1):

-

Cut out the plastic shell from the outside on both sides over a length of 140 mm with
oblique cutting pliers.

-

Fit the repair clip on both sides.

-

Drill a 2.5 mm hole and screw the shell to the hoop from the front using a Philips
screwdriver (refer to figure 2).
