Replacing sensor for cylinder recognition
(M50. direct ignition system)

Function description, Bosch DME
- 

Design: inductive sensor.

- 

Only recognizes camshaft speed.

- 

Differiated coding of sensor plug-in connection to prevent

confusion with the Siemens engine control unit sensor MS
40.

- 

Fault memory in DME control unit.

- 

Troubleshooting - refer to Electrical Troubleshooting Manual.

Description for Siemens MS 40 Control Unit:

- 

Design: angle-pulse sensor.

- 

This identifies the speed and the position of the camshaft.

- 

Position of camshaft is recognized even at speed 0.

- 

Sensor receives high frequency voltage from the control unit.

Phase displacement between the input and the output signal
is evaluated by the control unit.

- 

Fault memory in MS 40 control unit.

- 

Troubleshooting, refer to Electrical Troubleshooting Manual.

Unscrew screw.

Mark plug-in connection (2) on wiring harness and disconnect it.

Installation note:

Interrogate fault memory of engine control unit, eliminate
stored faults and erase the fault memory.

1 = Plug connection on oil pressure switch
2 = Sensor for cylinder recognition

3 = Impulse sensor on vibration damper
