"Raise window when closing door" function inoperable
E46 coupé, convertible
Complaint:
The "raise window when closing door" function does not work, i.e. the side window does not
move into the rubber door seal.
The following system response is intended. A replacement of the part would not change
the situation and must therefore not be performed.
1.
One or both side windows are open.
2.
The closing procedure is initiated via the "convenience closing" function or via the
respective power window switch.
3.
The customer interrupts the closing procedure
before the side windows reach their
upper end position within the rubber door seal.
4.
The door is opened. The respective side window is lowered.
5.
The door is closed again.
6.
The respective side window will then not return to its upper end position, but rather
remains in a lower position.
A fault may occur during the following control sequence:
1.
One or both side windows are open.
2.
The closing procedure is initiated via the "convenience closing" function or via the
respective power window switch.
3.
The customer interrupts the closing procedure at the same time as the side windows
reach their upper end position.
4.
The door is opened. The respective side window is lowered.
5.
The door is closed again.
6.
The respective side window will then not return to its upper end position, but rather
remains in a lower position.
Cause:
With the ZKE (central body electrics) with software version 1.5 or earlier, the upper end
position for the side windows is not reliably identified during all control sequences.
For the fault to occur, the side windows must reach their upper end position at almost the
same time as the customer interrupts the closing procedure. For this reason, the customer
can expect a very low occurrence probability.

Manufacturing period: from start of series production until January 2000
Manufacturing period: from start of series production until March 2000 (for US vehicles)
Procedure:
In case of complaint, the system's response characteristics should be explained to the
customer. Attention should in particular be drawn to the fact that when the side windows
are closing, care should be taken to ensure that they do in fact reach their upper end
positions.
Only perform diagnosis using the diagnostic system if the customer does not accept this or
if the customer's description indicates a true fault. If a general module is installed with
software version 1.5 or earlier, install a general module with software version 1.6 or later.
