Rear lights misted over

E46 compact

Complaint:

Edges of rear lights misted over.

Cause:

Due to their design, the rear lights may not be adequately ventilated in certain unfavorable
circumstances. Climatic conditions, for example rapidly falling temperatures with high
humidity (thunderstorms, car wash, underground car park) and a humid interior climate may
cause severe buildup of moisture (formation of water drops).

E46 compact 
Manufacturing period: start of series production until August 2001

Procedure:

In case of customer complaint, draw the customer's attention to the cause of a slight,
temporary buildup of moisture under certain climatic conditions. This will have no effect on
the operation or service life of the rear light.

In case of a severe buildup of moisture in which water drops are formed, replace both rear
lights.
