Operating software for navigation system "BMW Navigation V21.1"

E38, E39, E46, E53, R50, R53 with navigation system (option 609):

Complaint:

The following faults can occur intermittently or permanently in the navigation system:

When the car doors have been opened, the on-board monitor starts with a delay of several
minutes. This fault pattern occurs at outside temperatures of +5

°

C and below.

This complaint does not constitute a valid reason for exchanging the navigation computer.

For all other vehicles, installing the operating software V21.1 will not eliminate the fault!

Cause:

Software error in navigation system operating system.

Affected vehicles:

E39, E38, E46, E53, R50, R53 with navigation system (option 609) Mk3 navigation
computer and "Splitscreen software" (standard or retrofit: part number 65 90 0 140 531) 
Manufacturing period: 
E38, E39, E46, E53, R50, R53 from start of series production until May 2003

Procedure:

In case of customer complaint, update the operating software. To do this, use CD ROM
"BMW Navigation V21.1", index k, with part number 01 59 0 141 891.

Note:

The operating software must always be updated before exchanging a computer. 
If the component is returned, it is essential that the complaint-repair documentation
is correctly completed. Navigation computers returned due to obligatory return,
which do not have the current software status installed will be returned to the
workshop concerned and reimbursement through warranty will be rejected.

Reimbursement:

The remedying of errors whose cause is to be found in previous versions of the operating
software must be dealt with and reimbursed in accordance with the valid warranty
specifications.

65 90 91 06 00
This defect code is not contained in the official
Defect Code Catalogue but has been included in
the system, thus enabling warranty claims to be
processed.
