Navigation operating software V18

E46,E52 with radio navigation (option 606) 
E38, E39, E46, E53 with navigation system (option 609)

Situation:

From Model Year 2002 navigation operating software V18 will be introduced for the E46,
E52 with radio navigation (option 606) and for E38, E39, E46, E53 with navigation system
(option 609).

New functions in navigation operating software V18:

- 

Splitscreen (screen is split, e.g. so that a map and instructions can be displayed at the
same time). Only with navigation system (option 609).

- 

Fixed position cursor - moving map orientated to north

- 

Magnifying glass function (magnified display of selected letters in destination input)

Further information about the functions and user interface can be found in the operating
instructions for the navigation system, Model Year 2002.

In contrast to earlier versions, the navigation operating software V17 remains valid for
E38, E39, E46, E53 vehicle with navigation system (option 609) that were not equipped ex
works with operating software V18 (from Model Year 2002) or later, or with the retrofit
package "Splitscreen software" (see below).

On E46, E52 vehicles with radio navigation (option 606), the previously valid operating
software V17 is superseded by operating software V18 or later (V18.1, V18.2, etc.).

The new user interface can also be ordered for the customer as retrofit package
"Splitscreen software" from the parts sales department under part number 65 90 0 140 531.
The retrofit package will not be provided free of charge.

The retrofit package "Splitscreen software" includes the navigation operating software V18
and the Key CD for enabling the navigation computer for operating software V18.

The retrofit package "Splitscreen software" can be installed on the model series listed
below:

Affected vehicles:

E38, E39, E46, E53 with navigation system (option 609) and Mk3 navigation computer;
wide screen on-board monitor is recommended 

Manufacturing period: 
E38: from September 2000 with Mk3 
E39: from September 2000 with Mk3 
E46: from June 2000 
E53: from October 2000

Variant 1

Operating software V17 or earlier is installed in navigation computer Mk3 with navigation
system (option 609). Operating software V18 with the (invoiced) retrofit package
"Splitscreen software" should be installed:
