Motorola V3690 mobile phone: system shutdown 

E38, E39, E46, E53 with complete basic fittings for Motorola V3690 mobile phone (option
632)

Complaint:

The telephone system on affected vehicles shuts down of its own accord. In such cases,
the customer has to switch the telephone on again and reenter the PIN. This complaint
occurs most frequently at ambient temperatures of around +5

°

C and lower.

On affected vehicles, the complaint "loss of sound", i.e. the person making a call cannot
be heard by the person at the other end of the line, usually also occurs. Please work off 
SI 84 03 01 (672) "Motorola V3690 mobile phone: sound loss". 

Cause:

Hardware fault in the interface and tolerances in the voltage supply in the telephone wiring
harness.

Affected
vehicles:

E38, E39, E46, E53 with complete basic fittings for Motorola mobile phone V3690 (option
632) or basic equipment for installation of mobile phone (option 640) and retrofit
option 632.

Manufacturing period: 
E38, E39, E46: June 2000 until February 2001. 
E53: September 2000 until February 2001.

Procedure:

In case of customer complaint, perform the following actions:

1. 

Check the interface and replace as necessary.

2. 

Check the telephone wiring harness and if necessary install the repair wire.
