Motorola permanently installed telephone and Motorola StarTac mobile phone:

E38, E39, E46, E53 with GSM car phone (option 629); E52 StarTac mobile phone
(standard equipment)
Complaint:
The telephone system on affected vehicles shuts down of its own accord. In such cases,
the customer has to switch the telephone on again and reenter the PIN. This complaint
occurs most frequently at ambient temperatures of around +5
°
C and lower.
Cause:
Hardware fault in interface.
Affected
vehicles:
E38, E39, E46, E53 with GSM car phone (option 629) or basic equipment for installation of
mobile phone (option 640) and retrofit option 629;
E52 with StarTac mobile phone (standard equipment).
Manufacturing period:
E38, E39, E53: February 2000 until October 2000 (discontinuation of option 629)
E46, E52: February 2000 until February 2001
Procedure:
In case of customer complaint, check the interface and replace if necessary:
1.
Remove the interface.
Please refer to Repair Instructions "Removing and installing / replacing interface for
GSM car phone",
Repair Instructions 84 11 530.
2.
Check the hardware and software status of the interface. This is printed on the label
on the interface (please refer to Fig. 1).

If the hardware and software status is "H/S: 11/14", "H/S: 10/14" or "H/S: 10/15":
Replace the interface.
