General information
A list of all valid settings for Car & Key Memory for E38, E39 from manufacturing period
09/98 (Model Year 99), and for E46, E52, E53 and R50/R52/R53 from the start of series
production is attached as an enclosure.
Please refer to Enclosure 1.
We stress again that the range of settings made using the Car & Key Memory applies to
E38 and E39 vehicles with date of production from 09/98 (Model Year 99). For E38 and
E39 vehicles with date of production before 09/98, there is no guarantee for the range of
settings described in the enclosure.
Note: When encoding has been completed, programmed CKM settings in the encoded
control unit may be reset to the factory settings.
Use the CIP program for programming Car & Key Memory functions in series E6x and
E8x vehicles.
When doing this, please refer to the current IDC "Programming, Encoding, Car & Key
Memory CIP".
The technical situations and instructions given below have been adopted from the IDC "Car
& Key Memory M 39.0".
Applicable keys with remote control for Key Memory functions:
For technical reasons, only two keys with remote control are to be individually equipped
with Key Memory functions for E38 and E39 vehicles. For E46, E52 and E53, 4 keys with
remote control can be used for Key Memory functions.
No Key Memory functions (only Car Memory) are available for the R50/R52/R53.
Setting functions in the vehicle:
Each function selected is first temporarily stored in the diagnosis system. Settings are not
transmitted to the vehicle until "99 Program vehicle" is selected in the menu.
Control unit replacement due to new/modified CKM functions:
A control unit replacement due to a new or modified Car & Key Memory function cannot
be reimbursed through warranty.
New functions:
Within the framework of production measures, functions are continually being newly
derived and/or modified and then introduced to series production to increase the level of
comfort for the customer. These functions are dependent on the vehicle model series and
the date of production.
