Checklist for front seat with seat-integrated belt system (SGS)
Basic checks after an accident of
any kind:
Was the complete seat belt replaced
after an accident, e.g. a front and/or
side collision in which the impact
absorbers were permanently
deformed?
or
Was the complete seat belt replaced
after an accident-initiated triggering
of the belt buckle tensioner?
No
Replace automatic seat belt
completely; beforehand, you must
check and if necessary replace:
Seat mountings to the car body.
Seatbelt mountings to the seat.
Seat runners.
Seat structure, seat back structure
and seat back adjustment for cracks
and deformation.
Retaining bracket of belt tensioner
for torsion, refer to Location of
checkpoints for front seat with seat-
integrated belt system (SGS).
Yes
Was the correct seat back unlocking
and locking checked?
No
Unlock and then relock seat back.
Seat back must unlock and relock
without the need for excessive force.
If no:
Replace front seat.
Yes
Does the indicator lamp go out when
the seat back is locked and does it
also fail to light up when the seat
back is shaken?
No
Check microswitch of seat back
locking, replace if necessary.
Check electric leads, repair if
necessary.
If fault persists:
Replace front seat.
Yes
Was the contact surface of the
inertia reel checked for deformation?
No
Check contact surface of inertia reel
for deformation, refer to Location of
checkpoints for front seat with seat-
integrated belt system (SGS).
Contact surface of inertia reel must
be flat!
If deformation is visible:
Replace front seat.
Yes
Was the seat back checked for
torsion/deformation?
No
Check seat back for
torsion/deformation, refer to
Location of checkpoints for front
seat with seat-integrated belt system
(SGS).
If torsion/deformation is identified:
Replace front seat.
Yes
