Grating noises from convertible top
E46 / Convertible
Complaint:
Grating noises while driving from the area of the rear hood (rear window/soft-top
compartment).
Cause:
The edge of the convertible top fabric on the bow strut presses on the trim strip of the soft-
top top compartment lid. This produces grating noises.
Affected
vehicles:
E46 Convertible
Manufacturing period: from the start of series production
Remedy:
The edge of the convertible top fabric must be coated.
Procedure:
Open the hood so far that the rear clamping bracket is vertical.
Important:
Do not apply the coating to the rubber seal (2).
Apply the coating to the lower edge of the convertible top fabric (1).
