Boot lid adjustment
E46 coupé and convertible
Situation:
Due to setting characteristics, the gap width between the lower edge of the boot lid and the
rear cross panel may change when the boot lid is closed.
Effect:
The possibility of the boot lid striking the rear cross panel cannot be ruled out.
Affected
vehicles:
E46 coupé and convertible
Manufacturing period: from the start of series production until week 06/2002
Action:
In case of customer complaint, check the gap width of the boot lid and adjust as necessary.
Procedure:
1.
Adjust the boot lid with a stop pad so that it is flush at the top with the left- and right-
hand side panels.
Note:
The stop pad and the loading edge trim should touch lightly. The ease with which
the boot lid can be closed must not be affected.
2.
To prevent hard contact if the boot lid is slammed to, adjust the gap width between the
lower edge of the boot lid and the rear cross panel to 6 mm + 1 mm.
Note:
If the paintwork on the lower edge of the boot lid and rear cross panel on some
vehicles is already damaged, the damaged areas should be cleaned and touched
up with a paint pencil.
