Noises from power windows

E46 / Convertible, Coupé

Complaint:

Noises from the area of the windows in the front doors while the vehicle is being driven
and/or when the power windows are operated.

Cause:

The power window retaining nuts could have become loose.

Affected vehicles:

E46 Convertible, Coupé 
Manufacturing period: Start of series production until October 2003

Remedy:

In case of customer complaint, the four outer power window retaining nuts must be
replaced by new self-locking nuts.

This action must be performed on both doors!

Procedure:

Replace the power window retaining nuts as follows:

- 

Remove the door trim panel as described in Repair instructions 51 41 000 .

- 

Uncover the four outer power window retaining nuts.

To do this, carefully loosen the sound insulation as described in Repair instructions 
51 48 x01 
only in the area of the top and bottom corners.

Loosen the outer power window retaining nuts (1) one-by-one on both doors and replace
them with new self-locking nuts.

Note on installation:

Tightening torque: 9.5 Nm
