Front direction-indicator lamp loose

E46  coupé, convertible:

Complaint:

The front direction-indicator lamp is loose.

Cause:

Torsional stress due to tolerances being exceeded in conjunction with chemical influences.

Affected
vehicles:

E46 coupé, convertible 
Manufacturing period: September 2001 to November 2001

Remedy:

In case of customer complaint, check both direction-indicator lamps to see whether the
fastening lug is damaged.
Replace the direction-indicator lamp if the fastening lug is cracked or broken. If it is fitted,
remove the washer. 
If the direction-indicator lamp is not damaged, retrofit a support to reinforce the fastening
lug and to secure the direction-indicator lamp against becoming loose. If it is fitted, remove
the washer.

Note:

The new direction-indicator lamps are supplied with the support already fitted to
reinforce the fastening lug and to secure the direction-indicator lamp against falling
out.

Procedure:

1. Remove both direction-indicator lamps.
Please refer to repair instructions "Removing and installing / replacing complete front left or
right direction-indicator lamp", 
RA 63 13 150.

2. Check the direction-indicator lamp for damage to the fastening lug and replace if
necessary.

3. If a washer is already fitted, unscrew the retaining bolt completely and remove the
washer.

If a direction-indicator lamp is not damaged, continue with point 4, otherwise continue with
point 7.

4. Remove the bulb holder (3) from the direction-indicator lamp (1).
