Sport brake discs

E46 / 330i, 330d, 330xi, 330xd

Situation:

From April 2004, perforated brake discs are available as special equipment for all 3-litre
models in the model series E46 with standard 17 inch brake system. For the front axle, the
perforated compound brake discs, developed by BMW M GmbH, may be installed. These
are identical in design to those used on the M3. Standard perforated brake discs are used
on the rear axle.

Because of the special design of the perforated brake discs, noises may be heard when the
brakes are applied. However, these do not have any effect on the stability of the brake
discs. 

Important:

The perforated compound brake discs must only be used in conjunction with
aluminium wheels (including complete winter wheels). The information provided
with the perforated brake discs must remain in a clearly visible position in the
vehicle for the customer.

Screwing on a steel wheel onto the aluminium body of the compound brake disc may cause
a loss of preload force in the wheel bolts, possibly leading to the wheel bolts coming loose.

Note:

However, in the event of a flat tyre, the emergency wheel can still be fitted as it is
assumed that the vehicle will only be driven at a moderate speed (max. 80 km/h)
and only as far as the next service station.

Procedure: 

Install brake discs as described in the Repair Instructions.

Front axle: RA 34 11 220

- 

Rear axle: RA 34 21 320

Important:

Always install perforated brake discs in pairs on one axle.

To coordinate brake pad wear, it is advisable to fit brake discs to the front and rear axles at
the same time.
