3 Series E46 330xd (M57) TOUR
Caution!
To prevent damaging valves when fitting the camshafts, no
pistons should be in TDC position.
Withdraw special tool 11 2 300 .
Lift timing chain and hold under tension.
Using special tool 11 6 480 , crank engine at vibration damper at
front approx. 45
°
against direction of engine rotation.
Evenly release screws of camshaft bearing covers (1) in 1/2 turn
steps from outside to inside.
Remove bearing covers and place to one side in orderly fashion.
Remove inlet camshaft (1) and carefully place to one side.
Remove exhaust camshaft (2) and carefully place to one side.
