Incorrect washer-fluid level reading
E46 M3 convertible, coupé with lightweight bumpers
Complaint:
An incorrect washer-fluid level reading is given for the washer-fluid reservoirs on the M3.

Cause:
The filling level in the washer-fluid reservoir is measured by a float. The float moves up or
down depending on the washer-fluid level.
However, the float's movement is too long and this leads to an incorrect reading in the
instrument cluster.

E46 M3 with lightweight bumpers, E46 M3 with lightweight bumpers and headlight cleaning
system (option 502)
Manufacturing period: September 2001
Procedure:
Replace reservoir for windscreen washer system/headlight cleaning system (SA 502), see
Repair Instructions: Fluid reservoir for windscreen washer system (M3 / lightweight
bumpers) RA 61 71 062.
When installing a
new fluid reservoir, it must be ensured that

the date of production is
later than 24.09.01.
There is a label on the reservoir. The date of production can be read off from the bottom
line of the label.

080402, means date of production 08.04.2002.
