3 Series E90 318i (N46T) SAL
Crank engine at central bolt in direction of rotation to firing TDC
position of cylinder no. 1.
Inlet camshaft:
Note:
The twin surface for locating the camshaft has a curvature on its
upper side and a straight edge on its lower side.
In the firing TDC position of cylinder no. 1, the curvature on the
twin surface points upwards in the cylinder-bore axis.
Exhaust camshaft:
Note:
The twin surface for locating the camshaft has a curvature on its
upper side and a straight edge on its lower side.
In the firing TDC position of cylinder no. 1, the curvature on the
twin surface points upwards in the cylinder-bore axis.
Additional distinction of exhaust camshaft:
In the firing TDC position of cylinder no. 1, the openings (1) on
the exhaust camshaft point to the exhaust manifold.
Crank engine at central bolt and secure flywheel with special tool
11 5 120 in firing TDC position of cylinder no. 1.
Automatic transmission only
Illustration does not show automatic transmission.
Important!
On engines with automatic transmissions, there is shortly
before the special tool bore (1) for the TDC position a large
bore (2) which can be confused with the special tool bore.
If the flywheel is secured in the correct bore (1) with the special
tool 11 5 120 , the engine can no longer be moved at the
central bolt.
